Out of all of the Toy Fair news, the thing that caught many long time Joefan’s eye was the news of a Sgt. Slaughter SDCC exclusive. While Hasbro did tell us he would have all new tooling, we didn’t have anything else to go on…until now!
GeekWeek has posted some very nice images of the upcoming SDCC Sgt. Slaughter, and he’s looking pretty sharp. Included are both versions, the standard release (with the Mail Away deco) and the variant release, with the TTT driver deco. The main release will come with a championship belt! The more military variant release will come with a machine gun and pistol.
Very cool looking figure and an awesome tribute to ole Sarge. Check out the mirrored images below.

So the version without the mic and USA print will be available on HasbroToyShop.Com? If true then Hasbro has scored a save for the fans! Finally some good news!
Or did I get that backwards?
What’s with the lack of muscles? The upper chest piece looks lame.
Hasbrotoyshop has normally carried both versions of the SDCC exclusives on their site, so you should be good no matter what.
I hope these are as easily available as the Destro set from last was.
WOW. i was expecting a half-ass repaint, but this really looks like the Sarge. way to go hasbro!
Amazing! i’ll have to pay triple the price for this guy here on mexico, but it’ll be well worth it. Way to go, Hasbro! keep making great stuff like this!
These look great! I want them. I can’t wait to order them on HTS.com. Thank you Hasbro!
I see what Hasbro was going for but I think they missed the mark. The torso looks too elongated and the legs look too short. The top’s ‘neckline’ plunges too far down. It especially looks off on the wrestling version. I don’t mind the lack of bodybuilder-level muscularity since it looks like they were trying to make him look like the real-life Sgt. Slaughter instead of the fictional representation. Mustache is too thin though.
Love the caricature belt buckle.
The baton accessory looks weird. Sarge the wrestler carried a riding crop. Sarge the Joe carried a swagger stick. This thing looks like some kind of attempt at a hybrid of both.
I don’t think this year’s figure is going to stick around as long as the ROC Destro set has (man, those are still available at HTS). PDD and (I think) CC were under $9.99 while the ROC Destros are $24.95. I think it’s a lot easier mentally for people to drop a ten spot on an exclusive action figure than almost $25 for two 4″ figures. Along with (I’m assuming) a lower price point and Sarge’s appeal to both Joe and wrestling collectors…I just hope Hasbro didn’t look at last year’s set and decide to make smaller quantities this year.
Sarge is sadly out of shape. Serpentor should be glad he doesn’t share any DNA with this dude.
He looks kinda weak. Maybe he and Bench-Press should have a sit-down.
I have a few random thoughts.
First I don’t think this should be a SDCC exclusive. If they didn’t want to make a full run then do a store exclusive like Target or TRU.
I think Hasbro has forgotten what the word variant means. By giving them two distinct colors and accessories they’ve made two different figures. They should make equal amounts of each. Personally I was hoping he would’ve come with the modular rifle that his Joe Con exclusive did.
I know it’s just me but I would love to see a Cobra version of Sarge in tribute to his WWF champion Iraqi sympathizer days. If I remember when he first started in the WWF back in the early 80’s he wore gray and black camouflage with a white tank top; at least that’s what he wore against Pat Patterson at MSG. If you remember that you’re awesome.
