Apparently when the Club sent out that email, they weren’t joking around! The preview for the G.I. Joe 2010 Convention Exclusive Black Major is already online now! As predicted, he contains a heavy influence of M Bison, and wow. A very, very nice looking figure. Nothing exceptionally fancy about it, but very true to the Red Shadows Nazi-type roots. He looks evil and fits right in with the Red Shadows theme. Love the overwhelming black of the figure, with just the right touches of red…and man, that Red Shadow logo looks great.
I definitely approve so far! Keep your eyes on the GIJoeCon 2010 Preview Page for more preview images as they arrive! I know I’m looking forward to it!

very cool!
man I wish these were 25th style.
I’m echoing m6d’s sentiments. Very cool, and yet not within the scope of my current interests, collection-wise. I may regret that later, of course.
Can’t wait to see the troops!
Last year the members complained when the convention set was done in the 25th anniversary style. Apparently they prefer the convention sets in the 0 ring style.
Apparently I’m in the minority but I’m happy to see the o-ring return. I had thought that o-ring fans were all but abandoned with last year’s announcement of Hasbro scrapping the majority of the o-ring toolings. It’s nice to see that the club offerings are different from what I can buy at mass retail.
Of course, I’m the rare person who is debating ditching all of my 25A construction figures and just keeping my o-ring stuff.
I pretty much did the same thing, Fred. Boxed up all of my 25th stuff and put it away. It felt weird having both scales displayed of the same figures. . . especially when many of those 25th sculpts were pretty weak.
However, my ROC and POC figures I still keep out because they’re different enough from the originals and for the most part have better sculpts.
I’m really happy they brought back the o-ring, if only just to give it a formal farewell. Last year almost seemed like a surprise goodbye to the o-ring . . . without ever really getting to say goodbye 😉 At least this way we can, if this is the final hoorah.
So far so good on the Black Major. Although plain, it’s a great homage to the original. I’m looking forward to this set.
hell ya I love it! bring it on!!
blood for the Baron!!
I think it’s great that the o ring is back. While I enjoy all of the eras of Joes, these are my favorite and seem appropriate for the collectors club. I think this shows that there is a lot of life left in these figures and that they shouldn’t go away for a long time. I also agree with Fred Meyer, that its nice to have something that isn’t available to the masses.
I honestly believe that the majority of complaints about last year’s set was because it was a rehashed idea with the only new thing about it being the construction style.
Which is pretty much how I feel about the Black Major here. No difference from the original other than the construction style. He’s a character that’s been on the run and in hiding for over twenty years and he’s still wearing the same ol’ outfit? For as much as these figures end up costing out to that’s pretty lame if you ask me.
I have to disagree, Ben. As someone who has never had an opportunity to even purchase a Black Major, I’d have been pretty disappointed had these figures looked anything unlike their original counterparts. I was originally disappointed with the announcement of the o-ring, but the Red Shadows set intrigued me. I’m glad I stayed open to the idea of this set because, thus far, these toys rock!
