Just yesterday we reported about the mysterious advertisement on the Gentle Giant Facebook page and hypothesized about what it might mean… now we find those hypotheses confirmed! Gentle Giant is indeed doing jumbo sized versions of the vintage o-ring figures! They’ve revealed a few of them at ComicCon already, with images courtesy of HissTank.com. The following figures have been revealed:
– Zap
– Stalker
– Grunt
– Snake Eyes
– Rock n Roll
My opinions on these? Mixed, to be honest. I love what they’re doing, and it’s a fun idea, but I’m not sure these will draw me in. Eventually I’ll likely end up with a few, but I don’t see myself going whole hog, especially on the straight arm versions. I will admit, though, it’s great that they come with their gear. That’s a cool touch.
Very cool to see someone investing in the brand, though, I hope they catch on with the collecting community! Thanks again to HissTank.com for the images.
EDIT – Big thanks to Matt from Twitter and AwesomeToyBlog for snagging some more great images! They’re added to the gallery below.
Hey, those are pretty cool. They’ve been putting out figures that were giant versions of the old Kenner Star Wars figures, but those have the limited articulation of those toys.
But I suppose I’d rather these were swivel-arm.
What an odd thing to make
I just don’t get the appeal of stuff like this.
I like the idea, but I still don’t have the full run of the original class of 82 and I’m willing to wager I could get all the ones I’m missing for the same price as one of these bad boys. ……I’m still getting snake eyes though…..can’t help it.
These look awesome. I hope they’re planning to make Flash.
Pretty cool, but I think it’s kind of foolhardy to be so strict to that first wave of figures. At the pricepoint these will be selling for, I can’t see many folks plunking down the money for a Zap or Grunt. Snake Eyes for sure, Stalker probably, and maybe Rock N Roll. I think they would have been better off ditching Zap for Scarlett at least. But wouldn’t they have been better off skipping ahead a bit and adding some Cobra to the line? At least a Storm Shadow, Destro, or the Baroness.
For me I think it would be great if instead of the 1:6 scale they just re-release the 3 3/4 scale, particularly the 80’s line
