First and foremost, a HUGE thanks to long time Joe friend and fellow website admin Fred from JoeBattleLines. For folks who don’t follow me on Twitter, you may not know this, but during my trip to JoeCon, my beloved Fuji digital camera got destroyed in transit. That’s one of the reasons why my pictures from JoeCon were all of the less-than-optimal smart phone variety. So, fresh off an expensive JoeCon trip, I was faced with the distinct possibility of replacing my camera.
Well, Fred heard my dilemma and without hesitation, sent a loaner in the mail to me at his own expense. It was that camera that I used to take all of the pictures for these reviews, so make sure you thank Fred for his quick generosity. It’s quite possible these reviews may not have happened nearly as quickly without his help. While you’re at it, check out JoeBattleLines.com or on Facebook or Twitter to see his Joe reviews and general geekery.
Now, on to the review talk..
The questions generally start coming in about a day or two after I return from the Convention… “when are you going to post the Convention Set reviews?!”
In previous years I had sort of combined all of the individual pieces into one review, but it was getting arduous and lengthy, and I felt like each individual part of the set was not getting its due scrutiny. So starting last year I broke everything out into individual reviews, all linked to one central “Set Review”. Is the format perfect? Nope, probably not. And really, in my opinion, there’s no way to slam out 20 reviews in 2 weeks time without some of it sounding repetitive. Hopefully I do these toys justice, because there are some fantastic ones in here.
You can hit up the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Review page, or just click the link below for this monster. This will hopefully be a good way to kill a couple of hours on a busy Monday.
Thanks for the review! Just confirmed for me that I’m not really interested in owning any of these, although there’s some elements I may borrow for customs.
Toxoviper torso looks more like Arctic Destro’s than Jungle Duke’s, to me.
Yeah, it is Destro’s. Already fixed that part in the review. 🙂
Thanks!
*thumbs up*
What’s a “JoeBattlelines”? Never heard of it… 😉
I think I see part of your problem with Outback’s articulation. You have his left bicep flipped around backwards. Give it a spin around the right way and see if that helps.
i know right the left arm was upside down in every shot.
The Steel Brigade Delta helmet was actually a new sculpt, not a re-use of the DTC Steel Brigade helmets. The overall shape is different, the details are much sharper and the “snout” and the lights/cameras on the sides are different. Compare: https://www.generalsjoesreborn.com/reviews/2006/dtc/6%20Packs/plaguesb_2.htm
On a somewhat related note, it must be pointed out that the PoC Snake Eyes torso was a terrible choice for the Steel Brigade figures, as it’s really too thick to fit the repurposed Shock Trooper vest. It infuriates me to no end that they’ve finally corrected this error by producing a Steel Brigade figure with the proper torso…as a singular vehicle driver of extremely limited-availabilty who doesn’t even *have* the Shock Trooper vest…
Damn, all this time I was resting easy thinking I didn’t want any of these figures, but now that I see close, clean photos, I want Clean Sweep and Ice Storm.
As to Ice Storm & his “polar jacket”, I see it more like a Gore-Tex jacket. It’s bulky, but light weight and water proof (Compound-Z proof)
I even keep my desert Gore-tex stashed behind the seat of my truck for rainy summer days
Am I the only one that hates the Ultimate Cobra Commander hands on Flint and the Lab Rats? I can’t get them to hold much of anything. Nor can CC himself.
As a whole, I love the set. I bought five copies of each of the base set, with 3 Clutches, 1 Ice Storm, 1 VTOL pilot, and 3 Steel Brigade Zombies. I passed on Colton, as he looks dated (although the two-color shotgun looks great).
I wish they had gone with the alternate Steel Brigade pants (with the gun/silencer/knife sheaths from POC SE).
I am SUPER bummed to have missed out on one of those VTOL’s and a Stee Bree Delta figures. That’s the only piece in that whole set I’d have bought multiples of, if at all. Drat. (Clutch is pretty clutch, though.)
No Chef review?
Nice reviews!
I really can’t justify this set due to the price, but darn I want that Outback, Clutch, Ice Storm, Joe Colton, and Steel Brigade zombie!
Nice reviews Justin! How about having some pics of the ECO Joes with Renegades Airtight? He seems to fit the theme, yeah?
Especially would love to see how similar/different Clean Sweep & Airtight look side-by-side.
