IDW Publishing has dropped some very cool news with the announcement of a new ongoing title spinning out of their “Revolution” event happening now!
Once Revolution wraps, a brand new ongoing title “Revolutionaries” will make its debit featuring a unique combination of characters from the various Hasbro franchises working in concert with each other. Comic Book Resources dropped the scoop yesterday, with IDW sending out an official press release today.
So why is this exciting? Well, Revolutionaries will feature some serious connective tissue to all manners of G.I. Joe continuity, including Action Man, a new character named Mayday, as well as some other really cool news. According to John Barber:
Well, the first issue reprints — for the first time — the Joe Kubert “Sgt. Savage and His Screaming Eagles” G.I. Joe mini-comics. That’s a set of characters I don’t really have a personal connection with, those came out while I was, let’s say, between ages where I was into G.I. Joe toys. I don’t know what people think of those characters, but it’s really bonkers stuff. I mean, they had little in-pack comics and they got Joe Kubert to write, draw, color and letter them. The legendary Joe Kubert! The premise of Sgt. Savage is pretty nuts, but within that storyline is a group called I.R.O.N. — the International Robotic Operations Network — who show up in issue one of “Revolutionaries.” Meanwhile, in “G.I. Joe Extreme,” there was the Iron Klaw, and in “Action Force” there was Baron Ironblood. Is there a connection?!?
He also mentions that an event in Kalistan is what kicks off the whole Revolutionaries title, and any G.I. Joe fan worth their salt knows Kalistan was the country that Iron Klaw ruled while secretly also creating the insidious terrorist organization called S.K.A.R.
Sounds like some very cool side elements being brought into this world. Check out the article on CBR for some more great insight and the full press release is below.
Revolution Paves Way For Revolutionaries

Really wish they’d stop trying to make Scarlett the “face” of G.I. Joe on all these covers…
The Sgt. Savage pack-in comics by Joe Kubert are an interesting reprint choice. I didn’t collect the line so I haven’t read them, but Kubert’s package artwork is superb. The “Iron” connection does have possibilities as well.
I’m still waiting to see what Hasbro and IDW have in store for the Visionaries franchise which Hasbro brought back at SDCC. So far, they’ve been MIA from this whole Revolution event stuff.
