Ohh yeah… I’ve been waiting for this one ever since it was announced at JoeCon earlier this year. Finally, after 28 years, for the first time ever, we’re getting a Pythona action figure!
Cobra La is a polarizing element of the G.I. Joe mythology, but fans at large seem to be unified in the fact that Pythona was a necessary addition to their G.I. Joe collections. Well, the Collectors’ Club has officially filled that void, and filled it pretty darn nicely.
Featuring what looks to be a new head, new hands, and possibly a new cloak (or perhaps the comic pack Storm Shadow cloak), most of the heavy lifting is being done with very intricate and detailed paint applications.
I’m pretty surprised with how nice it looks. I had some concerns that without significant new tooling this figure couldn’t be done right, but based on the Photoshop mock up at least, those concerns were for naught. This is a great looking figure, and it will feel fantastic to finally have Pythona in my display.
Check out the image below, and keep watching GIJoeClub.com for all the details. If you want Pythona, make sure you’re a member of the G.I. Joe Collectors Club as of March 16th. You’re not gonna want to miss this one!
Rad! But why the squid?
I think that’s the same one that came with the Nemesis Enforcer action figure from the comic packs years back. They probably figured why not use the only modern Cobra-La accessory that was produced?
You’re probably right. I guess it just feels kinda lazy, but like I said above, I get it.
She uses a number of tentacled weapons when breaking into the terrordrome. It’s not a perfect match for any of them, but I get it. I’ve actually always wondered if the alternate tentacle backpack that came with the opriginal Nemesis Enforcer wasn’t meant for her at some point in the production process.
I get that too, but it feels a little lazy. And it looks like they took off the back-pack peg, which makes your suggestion seem probable.
ALSO – I wonder if this hints at the theme of the convention exclusives? Could we get some Royal Guard army builders?!
Membership figures have never had any bearing on the Joecon set, ever. I don’t think this is the year that’s going to change.
I’m also pretty sure that chest is new. It doesn’t match any of the existing sculpts.
Pretty sure that’s RoC Scarlett’s torso.
The lower torso is reused. The chest doesn’t match anything we’ve had before.
