A short while ago, the G.I. Joe Collectors Club let slip that the Diamond release of their G.I. Joe vs. Cobra #7 comic would feature a subtle hint for next year’s Convention set. Over on the G.I. Joe Discussion Group on Facebook, John Stottman posted a quick picture from this comic, and it would appear the subtle hint may refer to… Tiger Force.
Granted, it’s not obvious, but taking a peek behind the Baroness, and you can clearly see a tiger pattern, which would certainly indicate one of G.I. Joe’s most popular sub teams.
The Club has been known to throw curve balls in the past, so this could be one, but they mentioned a hint, and there’s not much else different within the contents of the issue. With the Convention coming up in April, we have to think we’re going to start seeing reveals in the coming months.
If it is Tiger Force, any guesses so far? Obviously there are some key members of the classic team missing like Bazooka, Tripwire, and Roadblock (which were all planned for the 25th Anniversary line, but never made it to retail). Then there’s some obvious subjects like Lifeline or Recondo.
Personally? I’m hoping for some outside the box choices. An Ultimate Firefly repaint as Sabretooth would be awesome, as would some of the UK exclusive Action Force figures. Not to mention other figures from the 2002 – 2004 era. I’ll be watching GIJoeCon.com for sure.
Check out the image below.
If we get Roadblock, I’d definitely recommend the mold that came with the Walmart Exclusive Outpost Defender set (iirc It was an unused Resolute mold, correct?). That figure is pretty awesome.
That mold for RB WAS used – in the Resolute online exclusive box sets. But yes, a great mold for sure. So good they used it a LOT. – Resolute RB, RoC RB, Road Pig and Night Adder, not to mention the Club’s own Big Boa, and floating around on ebay, an unused figure for the Jurassic Park line.
I’d also love to see the ranks expanded with some other classic Joes. How about Gung-Ho or Wetsuit*?
*He was one of my first G.I. Joe figures. I’d especially like it if they gave him an Eel helmet. I feel like Hasbro really dropped the ball with that (they had the helmet, but they went with Torpedo’s mask?!). Like I said. He was one of my first figures so I would love to see him with a helmet like the original figure.
If Tiger Force, that’s another easy pass for me, actually. Unless the Cobra contingent is amazing, I don’t really need any repaints for the Joes. Glad for those who want ’em, though.
100% on the same page.
Tiger Force could be awesome. Or it could be a complete disaster like last time when the club didn’t follow any of the guidelines for how the tiger stripes were applied to the vintage line or color scheme. TOO MUCH ORANGE LAST TIME !! As for which characters to include, i would hope that they wouldn’t get creative on us and give us people that weren’t a part of the team before. No Snake Eyes please. Just give us the characters we know and love and everything will be fine.
