After showcasing the artwork for the upcoming Transformers Collectors Club Marissa Faireborn w/ Afterburn yesterday, the Club has now revealed an actual Photoshop mock up of the figure and vehicle.
As we all expected, they’ve used G.I. Joe parts to assemble the Earth Defense Command pilot, using Cover Girl’s head, Resolute Scarlett torso, with Rise of Cobra Scarlett arms and legs. Afterburn is a repainted G.I. Joe: Retaliation Wheelblaster motorcycle.
I’ll be honest, I’m not quite sold on the whole concept of this combined universe experiment yet, especially because it’s firmly rooted in the Transformers future continuity (and so doesn’t necessarily “play nice” with the Real American Hero universe) but I gotta say the formula for the figure itself is pretty darn nice. A great combination of relatively modern, and nicely articulated parts, and I’m really digging the color scheme.
It’s certainly an interesting experiment, and time will tell how far the Transformers Collectors Club dives into this human element. It could provide some really great complimentary action figures to go with your G.I. Joe universe as well. I’ll certainly be watching.
Check out the Photoshop mock up below, and if you’re interested, considering joining up with the Transformers Collectors Club. Whether or not this figure will be available to G.I. Joe Collectors Club members still remains to be seen. I think it would behoove the Club to do so, because I’m certain they’d get some sales from Joe Club members, including some folks who wouldn’t necessarily want to pony up the cash to be a member PLUS the cash for this figure. There are definitely some cross-sell opportunities if the Club plays their cards right.
I’m thinking it’s a crossover with Masters of the Universe, not Joe, ’cause she looks more like Mekaneck’s daughter.
If ya catch my drift.
I’m thinking if we are going this route, then the transformers should probably transform…….other wise, it should be called “Figures with vehicles”………and I’m willing to bet TFC members are feeling cheated put of a figure, kinda how I feel getting PoP figures in my MOTU sub…….but cool for us Joe fans……I guess. Not what expected though. I was thinking I was going to need to join TFC.
Being a minor transfan, I recognize and appreciate Afterburner. But really, it doesn’t transform? That means it is not a Transformer, but, like the “Hound” VAMP, is nothing more than a fancy repaint; a repaint that any number of the many talented custom makers we have seen such repaints from over the last decade or better on our many community forums.
Is that what it takes now, I mean, instead of just “faithful homage” repaints in different construction styles, it all comes to angling as much “other” brands alongside it all?
I feel this is aimed for gi joe enthusiasts more so than transformer enthusiasts. …..I think they are trying to bring us over to TFC…lol. I feel they could have used a deluxe TF motorcycle to make this sweeter….
I wouldn’t doubt there is a lot of push behind Transformers at the club, Transformers is so much larger.
I remember being at BBTS, 5 years ago already, and even then, they flat out stated to me that Transformers was the bread and butter overall.
(it’s too bad BBTS is getting rid of their vintage department to focus solely on retail, something that apparently was controversial within their own operation….)
Maybe it is an attempt to sway us into the TFC camp. Conspiracy!
We need to gather all the old ’64’ers and find out what to do from our elder fans!
I wonder what it would have looked like with the “ride armor” style bike that came with Ashiko? Still, not shabby. I’ll get one.
Wonder if they could have used a Lady Jaye head with the Cover Girl hair? Ya know playing off the parentage thing.
Hasbro did do a transforming cycle scaled for a 3 3/4″ figure with the Deluxe Energon Kicker with High Wire set. While High Wire is significantly different, at least it would have transformed…
They also did Wreck-Gar, who as a deluxe, would have been in the proper scale, and who would have fit in with the Sunbow season 3 theme of the set. Though I can’t think of any specific episode he and Marissa Faireborn were in together.
You just know that at some point we’re going to see some repaint/rehash of RoC or Renegades Cobra Commander as “Old Snake.”
I dig it. Fits in well with the SDCC stuff we’ve gotten in the past. Personally I think it would have been nice to have a transforming partner but there’s really not a whole lot of TF figures that scale well with Joes.
It’s on a GI Joe stand. If it’s not available to Joe Club members than that’s just a(nother) dick move from Fun Pub, teasing the Joe Club members with something that’ll require buying a Transformers Club membership just to buy this.
The bike’s just a waste of plastic. It doesn’t transform so it’s useless to Transformers collectors and that figure ain’t fitting on it without Photoshop so it’s useless to Joe collectors as well. Not to mention the original mold is currently available at clearance prices.
How exactly is it a tease to Joe Club members anymore than any other Transformers Club exclusives? It’s a figure of a Transformers character. It’s being advertised by the Transformers Club for Transformers Club members. Same as any other Transformers Club exclusive. This one just happens to be made using GIJoe parts. It’s also no more useless to Transformers collectors than the SDCC TF vs Joe sets. Also, the original mold being on clearance isn’t very relevant. You can find just about ANY Retaliation figure on clearance. For example, you can get Battle Kata Roadblock on clearance at several places. Doesn’t mean the club shouldn’t give us the upcoming FSS Repeater figure.
“shockwaves across fandoms”
FSS Repeater doesn’t look a thing like Retaliation Roadblock. “Afterburner” is the Firefly motorcycle in pretty much an inverted color scheme.
Unfortunately the neck is too long for that head.
