Comic Book Resources spoke with Chuck Dixon, and broke the news that issue #21 of the Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow series (which appears to be its final issue based on what we know of IDW’s plans for their Joe titles in 2013) will pay tribute to the classic Marvel issue #21. As most folks know, issue #21 was a landmark issue featuring absolutely no dialogue, and was also the first issue to build the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow connection via the Arashikage tattoos on their forearms.
This amazing book made such a lasting impact on those who read it, that the entirety of Marvel Comics actually paid tribute to it with an all silent run of books entitled “Nuff Said”. Some folks also forget about G.I. Joe Yearbook #3 and G.I. Joe #85, which both did the same thing, and I maintain did it just as well as issue #21 did.
At any rate, Dixon breaks the news of the silent issue homage, and does a great interview with Comic Book Resources here. They also speak a bit about the upcoming G.I. Joe: Special Missions title and Dixon’s future plans. All in all, a very good read.
yay… ANOTHER homage-y tribute to the Silent Issue. yippee
Yeah… I don’t to sound cynical, but I’m not sure what’s supposed to be exciting about it anymore. A silent issue is practically the go-to gimmick for GI Joe comics.
You’re not being cynical. That classic issue gets less special every time they do this.
The Silent issue was more about Snake Eyes and Scarlett. Snake was coming to get her, but she was able to get free on her own and they both get away together… this had none of that… tribute my ass
