…and it’s a doozy. Five pages, over THREE HUNDRED images and enough words to make you mad.
Folks were asking for it, and now you’ve got it whether you like it or not. Check out the review at the G.I. Joe Collectors Club Review page, or by clicking the link below. Hope you have some time to kill.
I agree completely that the big vehicles need to be cut from the convention line-ups. More figures, more unique characters would be far more satisfying to me too.
the cargo truck is a complete snore and was unwelcome IMO
Man i wish i could have those
Thanks for the reviews, well worth the wait.
Justin, I also agree that I would prefer the Club focus on figures at this point, unless they can make ones as good as the 2011 vehicles (which is unlikely). I ended up buying both vehicles, but I almost wish I hadn’t. They definitely aren’t worth the price, and vehicles simply take up too much space to get something that doesn’t “wow” me.
I like the Club to make convention vehicles. The helicopter was the only 3 3/4 convention item I got this year (off of ebay). After this review, I want the motorcycle a little more than I did before.
I do agree that the vehicles are becoming a bit of a ‘problem’ though. Before the 2010 show I was trying to guess the vehicles and I realized that there were not that many left. The 2010 staff car and bunker were nice choices I thought, but this years convoy truck missed the mark, especially at that price point. I still might get one in a couple of years when the dust has settled and they are on ebay for $40…
Part of the problem is the Hasbro itself is so repaint happy. When they make 2-3 versions of the same vehicle a year there is not much left for the Club.
I’m just happy to see your review up, I’ll never get a convention set (cost and way to risky to send via international mail) but I’ll never tire of admiring the sets and photos here.
Wow, 5-Stars for Stormavik? Don’t get me wrong, I’m with you that it kind of surprised me that I liked him so much. But 5-Stars for a guy that can’t lift his arms? Really? He should at least get a 1/2 star deduction for that.
People might ask “Can’t lift his arms? What do you mean?” Look at the picture right above his filecard. That’s as far as his arms will go away from his waist. The Destro shoulder pads run into the torso and the best you can get is 15 degrees. Still a great figure, but by no means a perfect 5-Stars.
Who is a bold guy in a group picture of October Guard?
Thanks, Justin! I know this took some real time to put together and so many shots for us all to really get a feel for how awesome this set really is, in spite of what I feel are minor complaints, even from the beginning release images.
I would imagine this is about as close to owning the set as I will ever get, which really tweaks me off considering how much I enjoy the OG as characters and as a concept from the beginning. I get Red Star from the 25th series and that’s all, which I hate. At least with my ARAH collection I had all of them except for poor Wong, and they were all available for anyone to pick up on the shelves. I’d even be happy with just the OG portion and Voltar, even though I am also a huge IG fan as well. Oh well.
I know you catch a lot of flak about a lot of things regarding Joe, reviews and so forth from various people, including me at times, but I want to just let you know that it’s stuff like this that makes me appreciate that you do such in depth reviews and care so much about GI Joe. Particularly when it comes to figures and vehicles that I know I’ll never actually own short of some sort of miracle or twist of fate that one day lands them in my hands. So, thanks again for the effort you put into reviewing this set for all of us to enjoy in our own ways.
I may be the one who’s in the minority, but I absolutely loved the vehicles this year. I’d have probably bought a second cargo truck if there hadn’t been a one-per-attendee limit. I don’t mind that it’s from the Indiana Jones line at all. In fact, I bought one of those, painted it blue, and slapped some Cobra sigils on it after seeing the custom Hasbro showed at con a few years back.
