In an announcement that seems like has taken forever, an Amazon.com listing and TV Shows on DVD confirm that Shout! Factory will be releasing volume one of the first Season of G.I. Joe: Renegades on DVD June 5th!
While not quite the full season Blu-Ray set that many of us were hoping for (a la Transformers Prime) it’s certainly a step in the right direction, and hopefully a sign of more releases still to come.
As of yet there is no package art or episode details, but the Amazon listing mentions 286 minutes of footage, which breaks down to thirteen episodes. Hopefully we’ll hear an even better announcement soon. After watching Transformers: Prime episodes on Blu-Ray, I’m absolutely dying to see G.I. Joe: Renegades in a similar format. But at this point I’ll take what I can get.
Thanks to Captain N for the information!
You did a cartwheel with joy didn’t you, you hippie?
I won’t lie, there may have been some rump shaking.
Since I’m thrilled and stunned, I’m trying to refrain from complaining that it’s only half the series. As long as they release it in its entirety, I’ll be okay, but I hate when they split things up like this. It just comes across as a cash grab; it’ll probably cost nearly as much as it does on iTunes, once they’ve collected it all. Or worse still, they’ll never collect it all. (I’m still waiting for Gummi Bears volume 2. Cruel fate.)
I seriously hate that they break the season into 2 collections…for 26 episodes… that just pisses me off and makes me not want to buy it. I didn’t buy the new Thundercats, thou I loved it, because it was broken into 2 parts. I already have Renegades on my iTunes…so I don’t know unless the bring them all out together.
I have no problem with two sets… Shout Factory has proven that they won’t leave the fans hanging many times before. I love those guys. (Gummi Bears is from Disney who has proven over and over with their TV sets that they WILL leave fans hanging… I’m not sure if they’ve actually finished ANY of the series they’ve started)
But I do demand Blu-ray. I’m going to wait.
Season One Volume One… but there going to releasing a few episodes at a time… what a joke… what a rip-off…
It should just say “The Compete Series” because it’s over and done with and it was all just a dream
