As I sit here in NYC getting ready for the Hasbro Toy Fair event, the GI Joe Collectors Club has already begun posting some images exclusively to their website.
New figures abound, including Joe Colton, Blind Master, and a brand new Roadblock.
Check out the site right here.
Most of the single figures look like marionettes, particularly the Alley Viper, who is badly in need of a vest to even out the disparity between his absurdly skinny-looking torso and bulky helmet. Also, I know people have been saying that costuming can change significantly between when the concept art is handed over to the toy makers, but something like half of these things look to be kitbashed from pre-existing bodyparts, which is especially egregious in the case of important characters like Joe Colton and Lady Jaye, who appear to be 90% PoC/Renegades parts with new heads.
Roadblocks part of the Arashikage clan now?
that logo is all over!
if that new vamp has enuff decals without all the ninja deco…im interested. but i do not want ninja vehicles. thats just dumb.
I for one do like ninjas. Quite a bit actually. And I really like the ninja figs I see, but they are going overboard with sticking the Arashikage symbol everything. Keep it off the soldiers and the vehicles.
You ever think that there may be a story explanation for all that?
Oh, I’m sure there is a story reason for Roadblock and Flint getting the symbol, but I think it’s stupid for them to get it regardless. And I’m usually pretty accepting of stuff.
Apparently so is Flint. I must have missed something.
Justin find out if that B.A.T. has an actual name other than B.A.T. w/ accessories!
They’ve been just calling it the “Constructicon BAT”
Justin, any word from Hasbro about the lack of articulation on drivers?
The good news is the double-joint knee on Roadblock!
Also flint has the tatoo. Maybe a sticker of some kind. The tatoo doesn’t appear to be real on roadblock. Love the vest. By the way! No verhicles for me, doesn’t feel right. Cheap rip off. Also i hope the snake eyes on their site is wave 3. Because the first pictures rocked
Those vehicles just look cheap for some reason. The bikes especially.
Colton’s head sculpt is eerily lifelike.
Lady Jaye desperately needs a different deco from the neck down.
That HISS B.A.T. gives TRU Doc a run for his money, where garishness is concerned.
I like the counterintuitive color scheme of the packaging.
But Colton’s torso is Recondo’s…:( Hasbro should throw away this mold!
Lady Jaye’s color’s comes straight from the movie trailer…maybe we’ll have another version later…
What’s a “counterintuitive” color?
These look shoddily painted, but I assume that’s just the pre-production blues.
Jinx has potential. I like the reuse of Wraith as a Cyber Viper. Good kitbash potential.
Really, that’s what all of this is for me: good kitbash potential. I’ll be adding Colton to my Adventure Team crew for sure.
I was about to post the same thing. LJ and Colton look like they had a rushed paint job on them.
The Cyber Viper appears to only use Wraith’s head. The rest of him looks to be Elite Viper.
Wish Bruce could have gotten a new body sculpt. Lots of bright colors this time around. Seems like Hasbro is moving from one extreme (all black) to the other (lots of colors).
Blind Master’s pretty cool. Is Lady Jaye using Renegades Scarlett body? Seems like most of the new sculpting went to heads and the T-Crotch drivers.
Still want that classic Jinx though!!
Take a closer look…I think Bruce’s body sculpt is new. Or at least partly new. It’s just a slightly different look than Recondo. No mid-torso cross strap from what I can see. So perhaps they retooled that upper torso to better accomodate the head. We can hope.

Articulation explanation … Figure and vehicle play was important, and articulation needed to be reduced for cost. #toyfairny”
If the order is to save money on articulation, shouldn’t be cheaper to reuse old mold than produce new ones (arms, legas) without articulation??? :s
Yeah, why spend dollars to create NEW tooling for limited articulated figures, when previously-created tooling for more articulated figures already exists? They are all going to use new head-sculpts, but the bodies……do they NEED to be new tooling? What is the savings here?
If “figure play was important”, why create all-new limited-articulation tooling that has LESS play value? That seems at cross-purposes here.
Does nobody think about the cost of assemly on figures like Renegades Storm Shadow compared to one of the new vehicle drivers? That’s where the money is being saved.
Oh, I understand that. New tooling is an expense, but RE-USING multi-part existing tooling is also an expense–because of the numbers of the parts. I just ask out loud what is really the savings here if they have pressed these parts already and can make a figure out of existing tooling? They don’t have to cut new tooling for an existing “Frankensteined” figure.
Cutting NEW molds for 5-POA means that they will likely be used again down the road……I mean, its saving money, right? If that happens, then it becomes the new normal…..because costs are always a concern, and if the stuff sells at 5-POAs, then why ever go back to more POAs??
Its a compromise I’m disheartened to see because its clear that the thought with the brand was that something had to give, and once it gives there is no going back without further compromises (continued less POAs, less accessories, higher figure cost, less figure offerings etc,). Heck, I’d be okay with a well articulated figure coming with less accessories before coming with 5 POAs.
I’m NOT saying “deth of teh line” or that kind of drivel…….just that, this time around, I’m disappointed we are getting less.
Because manufacturing for the old tooling still comes with a greater cost burden than new tooling at less POA. As for “play value” from a kid perspective, play value includes tossing the figure in the vehicle and playing with the vehicle. No impact to that “play value” with these.
No. Manufacturing for that many small parts costs a lot more than one might expect and was greater than the cost implications of new tooling at the reduced articulation.
That Alley Viper really needs a tac vest.
Agreed. Some of these figs look really scrawny.
Yeah, Alley Viper is the one figure that bugs me. I like the figure, but without a vest of some sort he looks funny. Someone should cast the 25th/PoC Alley Viper vest in those colors so we can outfit them.
If Hasbro’s strategy for this movie is to lure the Corps audience to GI Joe I think these figures will do a great job.
Seriously everything about them, down to the dollar store looking colors and packaging is pathetic.
Yeah, this batch is REALLY bad. Colton and Roadblock are decnt, everything else is forgettable crap. Vehicles are good as I said when they were first shown.
But the packaging……oh my GOD!….what the hell. NOW I’ll be embarresed to buy Joes, these look like pre-school toys now and like you say Dollar store crap. Worst packaging ever, pure crap.
Still really dig wave 1, but beyond that……….. ๐
And just when I thought Hasbro had pulled off a miracle.
Dammit! Spoke too soon.
The real problem seems to be the Club pics. Looking over most of these in Justins pics these look way better. Flints head is still Bobble-head like but otherwise they don’t look nearly as bad. Feeling better now.
Just thought I’d add that.
Why does anyone care about the packaging? That gets thrown away never to be seen again. All I care about is what’s inside and as long as I like that then I’m happy. This stuff could come wrapped in a paper bag with a stick figure portrait drawn in crayon on it for all I care.
Like the new pic of Roadblock and Colton. Flints head seems a little big, but its not a deal breaker. I don’t mind Lady Jaye at all. Blind Master comes with some cool accessories. Speaking of accessories…it is no secret that I am on the record for not being a TF fan or a fan of crossovers, BUT, the little Soundwave accessory, complete with tapes, is a nice touch.
I hope you guys realize that the Lady Jaye pictured is a NYCC exclusive. :-/
What?? Are you serious?
Not according to Hasbro she’s not. She’s listed in every piece of documentation as being a part of mainline release Wave 3.
it is either hit or miss with these, some of theses look like prototypes, cant wait to see the final product, Colton look great
YES 1/18 RZA!
Liking the single cards, still sore about the vehicle drivers (but not the vehicles, they’re good in my book).
Slap a vest on that Alley-Viper and we have a deal Hasbro. NINJAS!
Wow! Lots of cool new details.
I am excited to see Blind Master, Joe Colton, Yellow Jinx, Lady Jaye and flint with a beret.
Also I am absolutely drooling over that Shockwave. Destro looks great. I like that it includes energon cubes, a mini Soundwave with tapes, the money, and a BAT to boot. Wow!
Also there are going to be a lot of ninjas!
