So, for Joefans, SDCC is already mostly done. Renegades info flooded in on Thursday, we got IDW stuff yesterday. Sideshow is doing their thing tomorrow, but by and large, we’re ready to move on.
However, the rest of the comic world is still trucking right along, and while I don’t read a whole lot of comics these days, I still really love the concept of super heroes and I try to catch as much of that stuff as possible in other media. And holy crap does DC Comics have that covered with two awesome looking events coming up.
First of all, the new animated series Young Justice. Not being a comic fan, I don’t know who the hell Young Justice is, other than apparently the Teen Titans, only no longer called the Teen Titans. Didn’t we have a Teen Titans cartoon a few years ago? Now they want another one? Well, once I saw this video feature, I want another one, too. This looks like a whole lot of fun, and I love how connected the Justice League is! Check the video out below.
But of course the really “holy shit” moment so far of SDCC to me, is the cinematic teaser for the DC Universe Online MMORPG (or however the hell that acronym goes). Now, not only am I not really a DC fan, but I pretty much can’t stand MMORPG’s so there’s no way in hell I’ll ever play this, but this cinematic teaser makes me regret not having 20 spare hours a week to devote to a video game. It is… stunning. Absolutely stunning.
Is that some crazy stuff or what? Great googly moogly. I love SDCC.
Don’t worry about DC Universe Online Justin. I’ll be buying that the minute it comes out. I’ll fill you in on everything you’re missing 😉
You hate MMORPGs, eh? Well, I assure you that’s only because you haven’t found one that caters to your personal interests. Believe me, if there was a GIJoe one, you’d be playing it. Because not only would you be playing inside the GIJoe world with all your favorite characters and living the life of a Joe (or Cobra), but everyone else playing would be a GIJoe fan as well, people you can chat with and enjoy your hobby on a whole new level. 24/7.
I personally haven’t really found that “it” game myself, though DC Universe may be getting close. My wife on the otherhand lives and breathes the much loved/maligned World of Warcraft, so I know how awesome it is when you find the right genre/interest.
But seriously, how awesome would a GIJoe MMORPG be? Live in or invade Springfield. Go on missions for Hawk or Cobra Commander. Level up, upgrading weapons and skills. Go to the training room in between to level those skills, train with Beachhead, Sarge or Snake Eyes. All the while meeting fellow Joes and their own unique Joe characters. Group with those fellow Joes or Cobras for missions. Fight it out against the enemy in PVP zones….man, if I had LOTS of money….
holy crap.
Yeah…Young Justice. I’m a huge Young Justice fan and have yet to forgive DC Comics for canceling it in favor of a wholly inappropriate and wheels-spinning Teen Titans. That said I was very not interested in a Young Justice cartoon for 2 reasons. A) The abortion that was the Teen Titans cartoon a few years ago and B) the Doomed to Fail amazing Legion of superheroes show a few years ago. When something rocks it gets cancelled and when it’s just plain dumb it seems to go on forever. However, after watching this preview…WOW!!! I am all in for this!! ROCK!!
This is my Fanboy talking right now…so nobody needs to jump down my shit for hating on Teen Titans a little bit. I’ve been collecting TT since it was Perez & Wolfman…so I assure you I love the concept.

The DCUO trailer was really the highlight of the convention for me as well. I’m not that big a DC fan myself, I’ve always tended to lean more towards Marvel, but a lot of the features of this particular MMO game really caught my attention. I’ve signed up to join the Beta testing phase of the game and am waiting to see if I get in. I’ve never played WoW, but I have played City of Heroes and Champions Online, but I think DCUO has a good chance of topping both of them. I’ll let you know if it lives up to the hype.
Hawkwinter, it’s not that I don’t like them, it’s more like I’m secretly resentful because I know I’ll never have the spare time to really devote to a game of that magnitude. I do think a G.I. Joe MMORPG would be pretty bad ass, and truth be told, I’ve long wanted to try some, but I just don’t have the time at this point to devote to it.
It’s more that than anything else.
WOW!!! The game looks awesome & it would require a lot of time to complete. Personally, I just don’t have it. Except when COD-Black Ops comes out in November. :o) I’m not a big DC Universe fan although I’m a fan of certain characters. As a kid DC always seemed… “Campy” so to say, the Batman movies after Tim Burton didn’t help either. Just within the past few years has the DC Universe seemed aimed at adults.
