Yes, you read that right! GeneralsJoes can now be known as slightlylargerimagesofrenegadesduke.com…I’ve decided to devote all of the resources of the site to just finding images of Renegades Duke that are just a little bit bigger than the image I posted before. Fun, eh?
In all seriousness, I was able to dig up an actual full size image of Duke in the upcoming G.I. Joe: Renegades animated series. Imagine that? Click the picture below for a full size image.
Now, there are a lot of cool things I see about this image.
- Natural Proportions. Granted, there is a slightly animated style to the character, but all in all, he’s got realistic proportions and a very natural look.
- The colors. Often the fandom’s main complaints center around the character’s appearance in the film or series. Well, even though they’ve revamped the style a bit, Duke still has the tan shirt and green pants the fans have known him for.
- The gun. That’s one bad ass looking futuristic pistol.
As if you couldn’t tell, I’m getting excited for G.I. Joe: Renegades, and hoping things are heading on the right track. Time will tell, but at least now we’ve got a slightly better look at the first piece of concept art from the series.
I really like the look of this. I imagine there’s some “get yer japanime outta my gi joe!!11!!” sentiment, but for me, it looks really cool, and a great way to begin fresh. Duke looks properly familiar-but-different, and if the serialization of the series is as advertised, I think I’ll really enjoy seeing where this goes.
My prediction: It’ll start slightly weak, then turn darker and better as the show plows forward. Like Clone Wars. But without Jar-Jar.
AS A TOTAL ASIDE: Did this month’s Collector’s Club newsletter ship? I never received mine, but I thought it was just because of Joe-Con. Now I think it got lost…
When I first saw this I was hoping that it was not what I was thinking. Since you blew it up I now realize that I was unfortunately right and Duke is sporting a goatee… it just does not fit his character.
I think that’s the inside of his collar, Black. Hard to tell, though.
No, Duke does not have a goatee. At least,I couldn’t see one with the high res images at JoeCon either.
That looks awesome. Couldn’t be more excited for this new Joe series.
I kind of like the first glimpse of Duke, aside from the spiky haircut, because it kind of reminds me of the uniforms that the first Joes (Zap, Grunt, Short-Fuze, etc.) wore. But according to all of the news I’ve heard about Renegades so far, this is supposed to be a year one type of story showing characters before G.I. Joe was formed. On Duke’s filecard it said that he was an Airborne Infantryman before he was in G.I. Joe. Is this what an Airborne Infantryman wears?
The larger image cleared up a lot. I thought the structure in the background was an outhouse at first . . .
Also, I’m glad to see that they are not using super-slick anime designs. GI Joes are American heroes — they should have an American feel . . .
