While obviously still in the very early stages (since voice actors are still just auditioning for the roles), the G.I. Joe animated series is plugging along. Hisstank.com board member Eric Bauza (who is also a veteran voice actor) recently read for the part of Tunnel Rat. If he gets the part, it would be no big stretch, as he also starred as Tunnel Rat in G.I. Joe: Resolute (not to mention did fantastic work as Destro and Storm Shadow as well).
Check out Mr. Bauza’s WikiPedia page here. Always love hearing news about this! Unlike a lot of folks, I don’t think we’ll hear much about this at Toy Fair, since it’s still very early on, but perhaps some info will be available at JoeCon…whereever we find out some details, I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully it’s closer to G.I. Joe: Resolute than Sigma 6. Don’t get me wrong…there is NO chance this is an ongoing Resolute series, not when it’s being conceived and produced for the channel that was formerly Discovery Kids. But as long as it doesn’t insult the intelligence of the viewers and tries to be a bit more sophisticated than Sigma 6, I’ll give it a watch. Heck, I forced myself through all 26 episodes of Sigma 6, just because it was G.I. Joe based…
Heck, I forced myself through all 26 episodes of Sigma 6, just because it was G.I. Joe based…
Why?
Why put yourself through misery like that? Why watch something you have not interest in, or buy something you have no interest in all for the sake that it’s called G I JOE?
I honestly cannot understand this. Hasbro isn’t going to give you a pat on the shoulder or send you a Christmas card for taking one for the team and the brand. Justin, It’s okay to not like a take or a version or a rebranding of the Joe brand. It’s okay to say I’m not ineterest in this, will wait to see what comes next.
As for TR, that sounds cool. My guess is that Operation Hiss will be Resolute since it’s online and Hasbro isn’t stupid enough to let that go completely to waste. It’s why we’re getting the 7-packs in the midst of the failure called Rise of Cobra. The 26 episode cartoon will probably be based off a new universe and take of Joe. I think it will probably be based of kids at a high school who are actually secret agents used by the Gov. Hawk is the principal, Stalker is the coach, Snake Eyes is the mystery man. Duke is the all-American jock and quarterback, Scarlett is the cheerleader, Breaker is the tech geek, Heavy Duty is the big loveable teddy bear who plays football with Duke and Ripcord is the wise crack and goofball.
HAHA!! You know what? Sign me up, that sounds good!
And others could make their appearances simply by showing up as students in the background. I see a red “14” jersey from a member of Duke’s team, who is Bazooka. Or a guy with shades and a lime green shirt working with lasers in Technology with Breaker, who we will recognize as Sci-Fi. Best part of it all, we’ll know who they are but they don’t have to give their names in case they don’t have the rights to them currently.
Doc could be the school nurse…
We could see a scene in auto shop with Duke and Ripcord, and in the background some girl named “Kourtney” and some guy named “Lance” is working on a car in the background of the scene.
Seriously, I know everyone thinks I’m negative Ned and probably hates my guts, but give me some feedback here. Do you think this would work and connect with the kids?
You forced yourself through every episode of Sigma 6? As I recall you loved it. What have you done with the real Justin?
“I’m actually somewhat surprised at myself for being able to stomach this out, because quite honestly I’m not a fan of the animated series. While there were snippets of cool action, and I always love seeing my toys come to life on the screen, as a whole the writing was painful, the dialog abysmal, and some of the characterizations were straight out of the worst stereotypes I can imagine.”

It’s the toys and the design work that he liked, NOT the cartoon.
Fred is correct. I LOVE Sigma 6…I did and still do. But I can admit that the cartoon was substandard and childish. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy certain parts of it, but they were few and far between.
But Alpine, I didn’t force myself through it simply because it was G.I. Joe…I watched it because there WERE enjoyable parts scattered throughout, they just tended to be surrounded by cheesy dialog and choppy animation. :shifty:
As far as buying something I have no interest in, just because it’s called G.I. Joe, well, sorry, that’s just bullshit. I don’t. Have you read my comments regarding the 25th Anniversary line? I take a lot of heat because I wasn’t a big fan of the 25th, and I wasn’t bashful in admitting it. I was getting bored and tired with the rehashes, the troubled construction, the recycled designs. I wasn’t a fan. I’ve been a 100% completist with G.I. Joe, buying anything and everything until 2007, and the Anniversary line broke me of that habit.
Frankly, I get pretty damned sick and tired of people who don’t agree with my opinions insinuating that those opinions are somehow invalid because they’re actually positive. Because I happen to like so many aspects of G.I. Joe, well, I must just be a G.I. Joe fanboy who loves everything. No, I don’t love everything, but YES, I have been a G.I. Joe fan for twenty-eight years, because I am a FAN of G.I. Joe. I like the science fiction and military hybrid angle, I love the characters, I love the mythology, and everything that I love about G.I. Joe has been present in all facets of G.I. Joe that I enjoy, including Sigma 6.
So, sorry you don’t agree with me, Alpine, but insinuating that I’m just “taking one for the team” because I have the audacity to actually like something you don’t is just plain condescending.
You said you “forced” yourself to watch it. That gave me the impression that you didn’t enjoy any of it but did it only because it was Joe.
Only now did you clear that up.
The part about buying up things because they are Joe wasn’t necessarily leveled at you. It goes along with comments I have been making with repaints that people are buying from TRU shipwreck to Ghosthawk in the last few days.
I don’t have a problem with you liking something I don’t. But thanks for twisting that around Justin.
There is a very real problem in this hobby with people having compulsive habits to buy anything Just because it’s called G I JOE no matter how many times it’s been repainted or how much it costs.
But I’m on your shit list because I’m someone who doesn’t go ooh and ahh for everything from Hasbro. That tends to happen to people at Hisstank.com, Terrordrome.com, Joesightings.com and others. And that is another real problem with this hobby.
I never said your opinion was valid. But this is your blog, so you go ahead and do or say whatever you want. Good luck to you with Rise of Cobra and Pursuit of Cobra, say hi Brian Goldner for me at JoeCon and good day to you sir.
You’re not on my shit list, not in the least. If you haven’t noticed, there are plenty of folks on this site who comment and don’t agree with my take or don’t like the same things I do, and I never come down on them…I only responded to a perceived slight, was never meant to twist anything around.
GeneralsJoes isn’t a judgement site. You can like what you want, dislike what you want and you will never be judged or blamed for it (at least not by me), so don’t assume you’re on any sort of “list”. You are not.
All I ask is that people are respectful of other people’s opinions and express their own with the same respect. I apologize if you feel like I jumped on you, that was not my intention, and I apologize if I misunderstood.
So far Hawk and Tunnel Rat have been confirmed as being part of the new cartoon. I wonder who else will be in it?
I think that Alpine feels pretty angry at Hasbro for not making anything new and is just rehashing & repainting parts and selling them as “new items” and a lot of folks buy them as fast as they can, thus, Hasbro keeps gaining money for just repaints, i feel almost the same anger that Alpine feels at Hasbro for doing this, but i also think that a lot of fans, (myself included) are just waiting for something to blow our socks off at toy fair; ’cause if nothing really good comes out of toy fair, we could all kiss the line good bye. Oh, and getting back on topic, yeah, i think this cartoon is gonna be for kiddies (again) i just wish that a miracle would happen, and somebody could finally convince Hasbro that kids really don’t give a crap about Gijoe, it’s the collectors market they should aim for, just as Mattel is doing it with the Masters of the Universe Classics.
Boo Patriots!!!
There, let’s see if I’m in the doghouse now. ;-D
I do think I understand what you mean when you “forced” yourself to watch it; It’s like when you buy a new CD from your favorite band, and they are trying a whole different direction for their music. The first time you listen to the CD you force yourself to keep listening, hoping you’ll like it. And though you may like snippits of it, in general you usually end up dissapointed.
I could totally go for an animated series with the same feel as Resolute. But if they market it towards my kids and it works, that is fine too. I may not be into watching it myself, but if they start getting into GI Joe it will be worth it.

Yes, Pentastar, that is a very good analogy. As a Metallica fan that’s one I sympathize with as well. 🙁
