HissTank forum member zephon got his hands on the upcoming Bravo class vehicle, the G.I. Joe Dragonhawk XH1 helicopter, and posted some thoughts here.
I love the looks of this thing, but I’ll tell ya, it gets smaller and smaller every time I see it. Not sure that really bothers me, though, as I don’t mind the whole mini attack copter idea. I’m a huge fan of the Locust, and as long as you go into it not expecting something the size of the original Dragonfly or Night Attack Chopper, I think you can find plenty to like about this thing. I especially dig the pop-out side rocket launchers. That is pure cool.

It’s a very nice looking ‘copter, very heavy mechanical styling that I think would match well with with the RHINO, save for the very organic-looking canopy.
I don’t agree with the tail-end of the thing, it looks to standard. Small size aside, it looks like they grabbed a tail from another ‘copter and stuck it on there.
Look at the old Dragonfly, that’s a pretty wild tail rotor, or even the RHINO’s helicopter’s tail. With such bold styling up front, it should have continued to the end.
The stub-wings shouldn’t have been added, imo, and the chin-gun could have been way more convincing and blended into the body without limiting play range.
I may just be upset that I can’t buy 95% of things coming out these days, lol.
Small size aside, and as nice as it is, I think it could have been even cooler across the board.
(thanks zephon for the review and images, too)
Any idea on how much this costs?
It is the “Little Bird” of the future!!
I like this thing enough to think about dropping 25 bucks on it. But I’m tired of Wild Bill enough to not buy it at all. There is more than one helicopter pilot out there. I love Updraft. Hasbro could easily reuse parts and make an Updraft. I really don’t understand Hasbro’s love of Wild Bill. I don’t even think I’ve ever met anyone who loves the character.
I really wish more reviewers were like the General and gave us critical reviews, rather than fan boy gushing. On the early leaked pictures of this, and on the one picture showing the right side, I can swear I see screw holes (right under the cockpit one is visible on the right side). I’m sorry, but that is just inexcusable to me. That’s something I expect on a dollar store toy, not a toy from Hasbro. I can’t think of a toy from Hasbro that I had in the GI Joe line that had visible screw holes on the side of the toy. Most of the vintage vehicles didn’t use screws, and those that did I believe had the holes hidden on the bottom or somewhere else out of sight.
I don’t mind paying more for quality product, but this doesn’t seem like quality product to me. I’d rather pick up a power team elite Little Bird gunship than this. Even if we knock off $5 for Wild Bill (because Hasbro figures are higher quality than PTE, but Wild Bill has been shoved so far down our throats there is no way any of us are paying $7-$8 for another one), this is still coming in at a higher price point than the Little Bird, which as I recall was in the $12-15 range. Granted, this has action features, but to me that’s a minus not a plus.
Sorry Hasbro, but this is going to occupy the same spot in my Joeverse as the new Night Raven… a non-existent spot. I love the figures but so far I’d rather have a Rattler than a Night Raven, a Night Ops Humvee than a Steel Crusher, and a PTE Little Bird than this.
Justin, thanks for putting up a great review of this, I was wondering how big it was compared to the other air vehicles, I like how the pit already has the helicopter pad for it, I will more than likely buy several of them for dios, but like others have said, there seems to be a couple of small minor gripes to make it a perfect updated chopper for the Joe team, I hope that they update the Tomahawk, or a Cobra Transport chopper, (I’d put down some hard earned cash for a larger chopper…..How bout it Hasbro?
“Another Wild Bill?” is the cry from the masses. I hear it resounding in my head too, but you have to remember folks that this is (another) re-booted G.I. Joe continuity, and Wild Bill has not joined the Team until this release. So this is the first RoC Wild Bill release, which is expected.
Now a $25 combat helicopter for the Joe Team is great and fun sure to please kids and fans once they put it together and play with it. However, it does not have half the features of the widely praised but yet unavailable Dragonfly or Night Attack Choppers which would both be more expensive than this toy. What this toy does is offer you the opportunity to have a RoC official dogfight between this toy and the COBRA Gunship!
Air battle royale!!!
It’s on baby and while COBRA may have the tech, Joe’s got Wild Bill. No crazier cowboy ever tamed a wild mustang than this here partner, so hold on to your hats!!
IDK…I like it….
