Disclaimer - The weapon layout is kind of a mess, so I did the best I could with what I had. I had to make some choices about which accessories belonged to which figures, your mileage may very.
Slaughter Marauder's Low Light
Really, how much more praise can I lavish on Low Light that I didn't already back in my Pursuit of Cobra review? Can I continue to talk about how nicely the designers took a somewhat dated 1986 look and completely reinvented it, while still staying true to the original?
Can I talk about the insane level of detail in every inch of this figure, from the thick padded forearms to the layered pants, complete with textured zippers? The shoulder armor and the very nicely sculpted torso, even underneath the bulky vest, is another awesome step towards a 21st Century revitalization.
Essentially for the Marauders set, they took Low Light and really went all out giving him a jungle operations feel, and this is a perfect example of why I'm glad they didn't stick with the classic Marauder color scheme, as it wouldn't have looked nearly as good as this version does.
So of course the biggest differences here are with the colors. Low Light goes deep, dark green throughout the entire base figure, with a very nice shade of Marauder blue for his cap and shoulder pads. This was a great idea for the Hasbro designers to sort of "throwback" to the classic Marauders color scheme, but it isn't bright or gaudy enough to take away from the excellent jungle camouflage covering the rest of the figure. Liberal amounts of brown, black, and different camouflage colors, I really love this look for Low Light and it makes him a perfect jungle sniper. He was already an awesome urban sniper, and this was a perfect way to integrate him to the jungle environment.
Now of course with this being a 7-pack we're not going to get the insane amount of accessories that we saw in the single pack Pursuit of Cobra release. But, even if we don't get the massive numbers, the quality of the gear works just as well.
Originally shipped with the Pursuit of Cobra Recondo, the jungle wrapped sniper rifle is a lot smaller and more manageable than Low Light's previous arm-cannon, which makes sense for someone who is going to be navigating through the jungle on the move. Just in case he's caught short range, he also comes with a great submachine gun just for good measure. His vest is there as well as his familiar red goggles. No, he doesn't have the crazy suitcase with the take-apart rifle or an individual bullet, but the weapons he comes with does make sense.
I do wonder why they couldn't have at least given him a knife for his thigh-holster, though. That seems like a nonsensical omission.
All in all, this is a terrific addition to the Marauders roster. Love the figure design, love the color scheme, the weapons are great as well. Good stuff.
