Over the years we’ve seen plenty of top 10 figure and top 10 vehicle lists, and it seems that in many cases we get pretty used to the choices that appear on those lists. Items like the USS Flagg and the Skystriker are pretty standard fare on those lists. While those are some very neat items, I don’t think they always capture the real spirit of what made G.I. Joe great. Even back in the 80’s, the Real American Hero line was as much about Cobra’s wacky sci-fi tech as it was about the familiar jeeps, tanks, and fighter jets on the Joe side.
Long time G.I. Joe fan RobotsPJs put together a great top ten list of vehicles, and I am loving his choices. Sure there are some familiar faces on there like the VAMP, but there are some other terrific out-of-the-box choices there as well. Some entries that you might not expect, but will likely make you smile when you see them.
It’s my favorite new comic day of the month…because it’s a new comic day with a new issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero! Booya! The latest issue in the new Hama/Gallant run hits comic shops tomorrow, and you can check out the preview of the issue below.

Larry Hama (w) • S L Gallant (a) • Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema (c)
Just as COBRA COMMANDER begins to settle into his new COBRA base on the west coast, trouble starts brewing. Destro and Baroness, Road Pig and Zarana, Darklon, Zartan: every one of them pursuing their own agenda and getting in COBRA COMMANDER’s way. Not to mention G.I. JOE following all their activities, waiting for the right time to step in. The stakes are raised in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #184!
Coil Con III was a huge event this summer at Kokomo Toys, a great sponsor of GeneralsJoes, but there was much more to it than just G.I. Joe toys and guests! There’s a sense of brotherhood, camaraderie, and just all out fun. The same atmosphere that you get at a JoeCon.
This year, though, they did something a little different as well. This year they brought in a documentary producer who actually filmed and interviewed the folks involved with Coil Con, and they’ve presented a short documentary of the event on YouTube. It’s a very cool look at Coil Con III and the people involved with it. Special guest stars Mike and Gary from the What’s on Joe Mind Podcast!
Check it out embedded below! Big thanks to the Coil Club guys and to Todd and Amber from Kokomo Toys for hosting the event and thinking of this documentary idea.
A project that has been listed on Amazon for a while, but with a release date that sort of kept jumping around has been volume 1 of the G.I. Joe: The Complete Collection hardcover series by IDW. The goal of the series is to reprint every page of every comic from the Marvel era of G.I. Joe…and yes, this includes (for the first time in trade paperback form) the fantastic “Hot Potato” backup story from issue #1 as well as all of the pin ups and dossiers from those issues, too!
Volume 1 contains issues #1 – 12 which collect the absolute essential foundation of the Marvel G.I. Joe universe as we know it. Dr. Venom, Snake Eyes, Kwinn, the Brainwave Scanner, Billy…it all started right here.
Amazon has this initial volume in stock now at a very reasonable price…and you can rest assured, with these titles being assembled by none other than G.I. Joe uber-fan Mark Bellomo, there is great care and consideration going into them. Hit up the banner below to buy this title and start your “complete collection” of the Marvel G.I. Joe universe!
News out of NYCC about the changes to the G.I. Joe titles within IDW has caused some speculation about 2013 titles…the official IDW solicitations have been released and now we know at least a little about the wrap ups to the current slates of G.I. Joe titles. Issue #21 is now confirmed as the final issue for these current iterations of the G.I. Joe comic universe as things evolve into the new G.I. Joe title, Cobra Files, and Special (Secret?!) Missions.
Curious that IDW chose #21 as significant issues in this case, and I’d imagine we’ll see some creative ways to look at this landmark G.I. Joe issue number, which we all recognize clearly.
Be aware that spoilers will likely be sprinkled throughout, considering these are comics slated to come out in January. Click the Read the Rest of the Story link below for the full run down.
