Spy Troops Wave 4 (Wave 7.75) - Nunchuk
Nunchuk is a relative unknown in the Joe mythos, even though he’s been around since the early 90’s. It was originally hypothesized that even this new version was really supposed to be Quick Kick and not the former Ninja Force member. The figure works either way, and I actually liked the original Nunchuk when he came out back in Wave 2.
The figure had some overly bulky shoulders and was oddly proportioned, but as a martial arts character, he worked. He was very much out of standard military garb, and I cannot fathom putting a figure dressed like he was out on the battle field, but he was poseable, playable, and fun, at least to me.
Fun enough, though, to warrant a second version? No, not really.
I’m a fan of Night Force…back in the days it took the opportunity to give some figures who had unusually garish outfits and dress them in darker, more respectable tones. Figures like Lightfoot, Charbroil, and Psyche Out benefited greatly from this treatment, but on Nunchuk, it seems almost wasted. This isn’t a figure who is designed for use on the battle field. He’s shirtless and shoeless and I cannot see him launching any sort of night assault on any kind of COBRA forces. Not only that, but the original version already had darker colors (black and green) and already had the face/chest camouflage.
As a result, the new version of this figure hasabsolutely nothing new to offer. They could have at least left the face camo OFF, so we could use him for customs of some sort, but otherwise, I see no benefit to owning this figure at all.
He does come packaged with Crosshair, who is a pretty cool figure, so I’m sure that people will end up with him, but on his own merits, I see no reason for this figure to be conceived of, packaged, or bought.
