Spy Troops Wave 2 (Wave 6) - Overkill
When I first heard about Wave 6, I was quite dismayed, for certain. It sounded like a whole line of repaints, with just a scattering of new molds. Now personally, I'm not 100% against the whole repaint thing...repaints are okay, as long as they serve a purpose. But repaints just for apparent repaints' sake doesn't really thrill me. And that's where this figure stands.
The Wave 5 Overkill was GREAT. Some awesome color shades and a nearly perfect combination of dark greens, blues, blacks, and a touch of red. He looks sinister, malicious and as downright evil as he should. The Wave 6 repaint, is, well...to put it bluntly, it's pretty gross.
They obviously had in mind some sort of desert color scheme for Overkill, although I'm not really sure why. I can't envision this Cyborg leader of the Battle Android Troopers as a desert fighter, nor do I think he should be used as such. His colors here are bland shades of tan, brown and...well, more tan and brown, and I just don't think this color suits him at all. If they had given him some more red, maybe, black and silver, that would rock. But as a brown-colored desert robot, Overkill just misses the mark. The mold is still great, of course, that much hasn't changed, but his colors really take away from what could have been a neat update.
Couple this fact with the fact that we got a good Overkill just one wave ago, and I have a hard time finding a reason why Hasbro went this route. I would say this pack would be one to skip altogether, except that the Shipwreck included seems to be a neat figure and one that should be acquired, if for the cool new head sculpt alone.
