G.I. Joe: ARAHC - Tripwire
There is one great thing about Hasbro’s "repaint" philosophy, it takes some older, less remembered figures and does great things with them. Such was the case with Range Viper, Undertow, and Ambush and such is the case here as well.
Tripwire never did much for me as a kid. He was cool enough, I suppose, but just never appealed to me. Whether because of his weaponless figure, or somewhat boring(to me as a kid, anyway) specialty, he was just a figure I never used much. His role as comic relief in the comic didn’t do any wonders for him either. But now, as an adult…well…older kid, anyway, I think I can really appreciate his role a lot more. Not only that, but Hasbro has re-released ANOTHER figure in 2000 and 2001, which is scores better than the original version.
Tripwire’s darker hues and colors do wonders for this mold, and this is the best Tripwire has ever looked. Even though his mold does harken back to the less bulky, more slimlined Joe figures pre-85, this look works for Tripwire and works well. I can see him as an engineer and explosives expert who kind of works behind the scenes and is the best at what he does.
His accessories are the same that came with the original version, but with no need to change…they are a cool bunch of accessories with a few mines, a great backpack to hold them and a cool mine detector as well. All in all, a nice package.
Tripwire is a good figure, but will not see a whole lot of use, I don’t think. Mine detector’s are somewhat passé these days and I don’t see a whole lot of purpose to him. He will make appearances from time to time, though, and I think is a good addition to the 2000/2001 Joe squad.
