I've mentioned it elsewhere within these reviews, but for obvious reasons, it bears mention again. The C.O.P.S. line and G.I. Joe line share several similarities, and now they both have their very own Android Troopers of a sort...only Nightmare isn't a trooper per se, more of an individual, and a very scary looking individual at that. Still, though, it would seem that the design concept of the modular arm has translated from the Joe world to this one, and Nightmare might just be the futuristic model of the familiar B.A.T.
Nightmare's body mold is...interesting to say the least. He is crammed full of cybernetics, cables, universal joints and other mechanical componants, and it's not a happy marriage by the looks of things. Where his skin is visible, he's still detailed nicely until the robotic parts invade and literally take over the bulk of the figure. From his odd shaped head (to house the cap-firing system...) to his angular feet, Nightmare is far more machine than man, and the machine parts are pretty nicely designed. His cyborg componants are layered metallic armor pieces that mesh pretty closely together and seem to fit nicely within each other and against his skin as well. The figures joints are accentuated by the cyborg "joints" and that philosophy works pretty well. Nightmare's legs are probably the most interesting, with a cool angular flair on his upper legs and dramatic sloped boots on his feet. The trademark thigh-mounted holster is of course here, and ready for Nightmare's red pistol to slide neatly inside.
His torso, though, is probably the most interestingly designed, with a high collar metal chest plate that looks to have a shoulder-mounted laser weapon, and which actually holds the firing mechanism for the caps, which are set off by his head, which incidently fires completely off of his body. Kind of an odd feature, especially considering there are some human characteristics on his head.
His colors are really kind of a jumbled mess. Slabs of brass, silver, and red are all kind of crammed together and ironed out into something that at least resembles mechanic devices, but that look fits considering the ID card mentions that Nightmare is a "botched experiment". He looks pretty nasty and evil, and probably quite threatening.
His accessories are pretty far out there, as well. Where the G.I. Joe B.A.T.s tended to have assorted weaponry as their modular componants, Nightmare has a strange curved cutlass, a spiked whip, and a small, but somewhat nasty looking claw. He comes with a pistol as well, but it's a separate piece, and only meant to be held. His weapons are strange ones to say the least, and don't seem really very potentially effective unless he gets up close. Of course for a cyborg like this, getting up close might not be too difficult.
Nightmare leaves me with mixed emotions. Conceptually there are some interesting things going on here, but ultimately I don't find the figure all that cool. His joints tend to be stiff and he's somewhat hard to move with all of that clunky stuff on him. His weapons are odd, his colors don't make a whole lot of sense, and that head is just...bizarre. He's not one of my favorites, I can definitely say that much.
