As I mentioned in my review of Big Boss, one of the coolest things about the C.O.P.S. toyline that G.I. Joe didn't quite do enough of was to experiment with different body styles. In C.O.P.S. you get skinny, strong, slim, fat, and then you have Louie, who is just plain BIG.
Louie is about the only Crook from the second series of figures that essentially looks like a normal guy. No straps of bullets, silver capes, yellow mohawks or robotic parts...Louie just looks like a big, stocky laborer, which is exactly what he's meant to look like. However, what people don't know is his nail gun shoots bullets and his toolkit houses all sorts of unpleasent blunt objects. I like Louie, if only for his different body style. He stands out from the crowd and looks pretty neat as a huge, powerful individual.
His head is thick, wide, and grizzled, looking like the cranky old tough guy that he should. He's the Crooks' maintenance man essentially, but double as someone who does their dirty work, and he can look both parts. His non-removable flat white hat looks neat and fits the character well, and his clothes are molded pretty realistically. He's got your basic torn white "wife beater" shirt on with black suspenders and blue pants. Nothing extraoridinary, nothing out of this world, but everything is sculpted realistically and convincingly, giving him a nice down to Earth appearence, which is especially important amongst the motly crew of Crooks you get in this second series of figures. It is pretty amazing, too, that despite the sheer bulk of this figure, he still retains full poseability, which is very important to me, and which is achieved quite successfully here.
His colors are pretty basic whites, blues, and blacks, with some brown thrown in where it fits. These are normal, every day colors that match the clothing they're supposed to match. Nothing unusually striking or eye catching, but effective, nonetheless. I really like the little detail in the torn shirt where you see some skin poking out through. A small detail like that can go easily unnoticed, but it's pretty tricky to get the look within the constraints of the paint application process.
Louie the Plumber comes pretty loaded with accessories, with his huge backpack, oversized gold nail gun and assortment of "dirty work" instruments in the included tool kit. No overly large or exhorbetant accessories here, but like the rest of the figure, simple and to the point. It's all quite effective together, and while there is nothing really unusual that makes this figure stick out, I like it a lot, and feel comfortable recommending it. Louie the Plumber figures can be a little bit hard to find, but when they are available, it's usually for a decent price. Take a chance.
