While the first series of the C.O.P.S. toyline featured mainly people of the law enforcement variety, in series two, they branched out a little bit. Guys like Checkpoint from the military, Powderkeg from the Bomb Squad, and here is Inferno, a member of the Fire Department. In fact, Inferno almost looks like a one-man Fire Department, with all of the huge equipment.
Well, one man fire department or not, the Inferno figure just doesn't do much for me. From his oddly wide moustached head/facial sculpt to his overly bulky mold with a lot of detail, but kind of bland detail...he's just not that impressive. His shoulders are very broad, and his sleeves have some funky wrinkle/fold thing going on. The top half of the figure is layered, thick, and large, while the bottom half is sculpted almost overly thin with a set of too-tall boots and a funky way of standing...he just isn't all that imposing and convincing as a firefighter.
The colors are okay, I suppose...black and red works for pretty much anything, and it makes sense for a firefighter, but the shade of red is somewhat bright and the black kind of washes out a lot of the detail throughout his jacket. The silver looks somewhat funky, especially with so much of it on his legs, and doesn't really fit the rest of the figure.
His accessories make sense, but just aren't that exciting. A standard looking firehat, which looks like it should have a clear visor, but doesn't, starts things off. It's an okay, realistic sculpt and convincing enough. His water-containing backpack is HUGE, but makes sense in a "portable fire engine" type of way. It also connects to his massive, nicely designed fire axe, which looks like it was sculpted to be a built-in fire hose as well, which is also a pretty neat feature that I kind of like. Lastly, he sports a nice little snub nosed pistol that slides into a holster on his thigh, which seems to be an ongoing theme with the second series of figures. It's a theme that works for me, and I'm happy to see that even as a firefighter, he at least comes with some offense, just in case.
Overall, it's a mixed bag, but I'm really not a big fan of this figure. He's okay, but nothing really impressive and I don't see much of a need to highly recommend him unless you need to fill a hole in your collection.
