If I had any main complaint about the first series Crooks figures it was that they didn't really look intimidating. Besides Button McBoomBoom, they all looked pretty goofy and bright colored with no real dangerous aspects to them, and no real overt threat. Well, that has certainly changed with Bullit here, the Crooks resident weapons fanatic. Anyone who wouldn't feel intimidated by this guy isn't looking hard enough!
Bullit's head sculpt is a little strange in the same way that Airwave's is...the eyes are thin and narrow, and he really has a funky high and tight hairstyle. Still, though, the face looks hard and harsh, and quite intimidating. Even if you don't find the face intimidating enough, once you see his thick sculpted tunic absolutely covered in nicely detailed machine gun belts, you soon realize that this guy does have a serious streak to him. In fact the figure is absolutely covered with shells, bullets, straps and other assorted badness. This is the obvious points of the figure's mold, but it's the subtle intricacies that I like. Yeah, subtle. I'm talking about subtle with a guy who has more bullets than cloth on his uniform. Well, if you look closely, you'll notice the slightly raised rigid collar and the thin zipper running down his tunic. These small details add a nice depth to the sculpt, not to mention a slight touch of realism. Then of course you have his trio of pistol holsters on one thigh, which actually don't look that out of place...they match his pouches on the left shoulder pretty seamlessly. His three pistols fit nicely into those holsters, and that just pretty much tops off the gun happy mold.
The colors are fairly straight forward, with some brown, some light brown, some orangish brown, and some gold. Not much variation in the color pallet, but there doesn't really need to be, and each color has it's rightful place. Not the most vibrant or exciting color scheme in the world, but the brass and brown mix pretty well and don't end up looking too bad together.
Now, what about his accessories? Oye...this guys loaded with 'em. First of all, he's got a somewhat "conehead" helmet, which actually doesn't look nearly as bad as you might originally think. It makes him somewhat more resemble his namesake, and the eyepiece that actually flips down in front of his right eye is a very cool concept and works well. He's also got yet another machine gun belt to strap over his sculpted on belts, his three pistols to fit in his nice three molded holsters, a small machine gun, and to top it all off, a large, rolling land cannon. This cannon is just downright strange, and I'm honestly not sure if I see a real world use for it, but it's big, deadly and scary, so I guess it works.
Beyond the oversized rolling tank on wheels, the figure is pretty cool. His construction is such that is articulation isn't quite as "free roaming" as some other figures, but his nasty, intimidating appearence and just plain deadly look more than make up for it. His vast assortment of nicely sculpted firearms and very cool helmet round off what is essentially a gun runner, and a nicely designed one, too. He's another pretty cheap second series figure, and might be worth a thought when you have some toy money burning a hole in your pocket.
