Here is a case where again, the toy does not resemble how the character really appeared in the cartoon or comic, but in this case I'm very happy about that!
In the cartoon and comic book, Badvibes took on a pseudo mad scientist look (as he does here), but his long labcoat looked almost skirtish, and his voice and facial features almost made him come across... "girlish". He was not the least bit threatening, seemed to be used mostly for comic relief (as were most of the Crooks in both medium, unfortunately) and I didn't find him even slightly intimidating.
The toy however, has a much more super villain look to it, and a much more effective design. The overly thin, scrawny mold just makes him look wirey and devilish, and the wrinkles of his labsuit seem to wrap around his frame perfectly. His labcoat is a nice mixture of traditional appearence with science fiction villain undertones and the mixture works quite well together. Add in his angled, elbow length gloves and tall purple boots, and he seems like more than just an overly skinny science nerd...he actually seems like a threat.
His head sculpt is brilliant as well, with his main feature being the see-through skullcap and visible brain. It's never really told why he has this distinct look, but it definitely separates the figure from the others and makes him all the more insidious. Those crazy glasses and thin, angry scowl finish off the facial sculpt and give him some real character and evil, something that was somewhat missing in his animated and written form.
The paint applications are simple, but effective, using a lot of white for the labcoat, with just the right touches of purple on the gloves and boots. He's got orange hair, the silver on his glasses, and overall just looks...good. I dig his color scheme, even in it's simplest form.
His accessories are also very interesting. He comes with his self-constructed robot named "Buzzbomb" who became a pretty central character in several forms throughout the comic and cartoon history, and he comes with a multi-barreled machine gun which he can hold, or give to his robot to use, which works even better. All in all, not a vast assortment of accessories, but the coolness makes up for it.
As a pretty high-ranking member of the Crooks, and an essential componant to their success, Dr. Badvibes is an important figure to have of an unfortunately bland character. The figure itself is very skinny and kind of funky to tool around with, but I like it, and I can definitely endorse a purchase, especially since it's not a rare or highly sought after figure and can be found pretty cheap.
